BHM was appointed Main Contractor for the runway rehabilitation works. The upgrade to the runway to ensure compliance with ICAO requirements and to provide significant future lifespan without requiring major maintenance.
Client: Grand Bahama International Airport
The runway was in poor condition as the area was prone to significant weather events, including flooding and storms and having had no major rehabilitation works since 2002 / 2003. The runway was showing distresses including:
• Opening and separation of paving joint lines
• General weathering and raveling of the wearing course
• Depressions, cracking and heaving
The runway was not in full compliance with ICAO regulations, requiring a number of significant upgrades.

• Profile milling and paving using 2d and 3d laser guided leveling system
• Installed new AGL system for entire runway
• Installed new longitudinal drainage runs on both sides of runway
• Reinstated all runway markings with upgrades to ensure ICAO compliance
Services Provided
• Profile Milling and paving (P-401 mix) to resurface a 3,359m long by 47.5m wide, international runway whilst the runway remained fully operational
• Utilized bitumen grades 76-22 with elastic recovery of 70%
• Installed new inset LED AGL lighting and control system

• Value engineering & Collaboration with engineers, suppliers and other parties
