Marsh Harbour being the major port of the Abacos, in order to supplement the growing economic and commercial capability on the islands of the Abacos, a new port facility was needed for the increased shipping numbers.
Client: Ministry for Public Works and Transport, Bahamas
The works on reclaimed land, required sheet piling and caping beams, and bulk earthworks to create real estate including new docks and storage areas, for the new facility. The earthworks for the reclaimed land was done using the dredged materials. Bulk importation of base material, grading and asphalt works created the new facility, in addition to drainage and security measures. Access to the new facility required construction of a 1.5-mile asphalt access road, which required site clearance, soil remediation through a low lying area with unsuitable road conditions, drainage works, road paving and signage.
